Cinderella Dog

Cinderella Fund

Every year, the Humane Society of Missouri receives sick or injured animals that need special medical treatment before they can be placed for adoption. The Cinderella Fund enables the Humane Society of Missouri to go the extra mile for animals that have suffered abuse or neglect and require medical treatment that is beyond the scope of regular adoption center procedures.

Rescues and Investigations

The Rescues and Investigations Department is made up of professional Humane Officers and Statewide Investigators who conduct investigations of alleged cases of abuse and neglect of animals. The St. Louis Division Humane Officers are on call 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year to rescue animals in distress, pick-up unwanted animals, and transport sick and/or injured stray animals. Special training and state-of-the-art equipment allow Humane Officers to handle even the most difficult rescues.

Foster Puppies

Foster Program

The Humane Society of Missouri Foster Program presents an opportunity for eligible animals to become adoptable companions. It is a program brought forth from the heart. Our Foster Program is a combined effort of interested staff and volunteers, who responsibly give of their time and lavish their attention on an animal that would ordinarily have been found unsuitable for adoption due to health or age.

Operation SNIP

Operation SNIP, our low-cost spay/neuter program is offered at our Veterinary Medical Centers in St. Louis City and Westport Area Center in Maryland Heights to area pet owners regardless of income. The program, which charges only $39.95 per surgery, is designed to help curb pet overpopulation and keep pets healthy. As a direct result of the Humane Society's emphasis on responsible pet ownership and spaying or neutering of all pets, 26% fewer animals have been brought to our shelters in the past five years.

Behavior Programs Fund

Behavior and Training Programs

The Humane Society of Missouri's dog obedience programs and Pet Behavior Helpline teach pet owners how to communicate effectively with their pets and ultimately help reduce the number of pets relinquished to animal shelters because of undesirable behavior. The Humane Society of Missouri offers obedience training for any dog eight weeks of age and older through a partnership with the Greater Saint Louis Training Club. Well-behaved companion animals graduate from our classes which utilize positive reinforcement training.  Special obedience training discounts are available to new adopters.
